I have read that Apollinaris sherds have been found on the River Thames tidal foreshore and it is likely that there are still other hidden assemblages of Apollinaris stoneware bottles perhaps in this, as well as other parishes in this country; it would be interesting to know. Indeed the known pattern of exportation suggests that they might be found all over the world.
Today both the source of the Apollinaris mineral water and the brand is owned by Coca-Cola which acquired it from Cadbury-Schweppes in 2006. Known as the Queen of Table Waters (a title created by Ernest Hart, Editor of the British Medical Journal),22 its trade mark is a red triangle. We have a bottle, but have never tried it!
