Thursday 14th March 2019: The BARG Spring Quarterly Open Meeting took place at 7.30pm in the De Vitre Room, The Cornerstone, Norreys Ave, Wokingham. Our speaker was John Powell of Wessex Archaeology on the Riding Court Farm excavations, near Datchet. Discoveries at this multi-period site included a Neolithic causewayed enclosure. After the refreshment break Janet Firth spoke on What can we learn from archaeological fieldwalking?
Thursday 6th June 2019: The BARG Summer Quarterly Open Meeting and AGM took place at 7.30pm. Beth Asbury (Historic Environment Record Officer for West Berkshire) discussed her work in a talk entitled Holding out for a HERO.
Saturday 20th July 2019: A ‘mini-dig ‘and finds handling session took place at West Berkshire Museum from 10am to 3pm.
Sunday 4th August 2019: The BARG BBQ was held at Barkham.
Wednesday 2nd October 2019: The BARG Autumn Quarterly Open Meeting took place at 7.30pm in the De Vitre Room, The Cornerstone, Norreys Ave, Wokingham. Our speaker was Roland Smith of Berkshire Archaeology on The Story of the 1950s excavation of Berkshire’s most important Saxon settlement at Old Windsor: the excavator, the archive and the future.
Thursday 5th December 2019: The BARG Winter Quarterly Open Meeting took place at 7.30pm in the De Vitre Room, The Cornerstone, Norreys Ave, Wokingham. The first of two speakers was Owen Humphreys (lately of Reading University) who talked about his recent report on Archaeology in East Berkshire: A Resource Assessment. Helena Costas also talked about her work as the Finds Liaison Officer for the whole of Berkshire. The BARG Christmas Social followed later in the evening.
