Thursday 17th January 2013

The BARG Winter Quarterly Open Meeting took place at 7.30pm in the De Vitre room, The Cornerstone, Norreys Ave, Wokingham. The main talk was by BARG member Bob Brewer on Childrey Hill, Berkshire, investigating a prehistoric landscape. After the refreshment break Andrew Hutt spoke about the recent BARG geophysical survey at Streatley.

Saturday 23rd February 2013

A workshop on protocols for excavating human materials took place in Barkham with Helen Webb (Oxford Archaeology). The session covered a variety of aspects of excavating human remains (both inhumations and cremations), including burial licence applications and other ethical considerations, practical aspects (tools, excavation and sampling methods) and recording methods.

The BARG Spring Quarterly Open Meeting took place at 7.30pm in the De Vitre room, The Cornerstone, Norreys Ave, Wokingham. The main talk was by Ann Griffin and Joy Blake on Excavations in Cookham Paddock, 2005. After the refreshment break Andrew Hutt spoke about the BARG geophysical survey of Ffiennes Farm, Littlewick Green, Berkshire.

Saturday 27th April 2013

A Roman Pottery workshop took place in Barkham with Lorraine Mepham (Wessex Archaeology). The session particularly focussed on the identification of Roman pottery types commonly found in and around Berkshire.

Wednesday 12th June 2013

The BARG Summer Quarterly Open Meeting and 2013 Annual General Meeting took place at 7.30pm in the De Vitre room, The Cornerstone, Norreys Ave, Wokingham. The main talk was by Dr Michael Keith Lucas, formerly of Plant Sciences, University of Reading, on The use of pollen analyis in archaeology, including forensic aspects. This was followed by the Group's formal AGM.

Members attended BARG's annual visit to the Insula IX Silchester excavations.

BARG's Autumn Quarterly Open Meeting took place at 7.30pm in the De Vitre Room,The Cornerstone, Norreys Ave, Wokingham. The main talk was by Neil Linford of English Heritage on Ground Penetrating Radar. This was followed by a presentation by Nigel Spencer on the latest work at Blounts Court.
