The Summer Quarterly Open Meeting and 2016 Annual General Meeting took place at 7.30pm in the De Vitre room, The Cornerstone, Norreys Ave, Wokingham. The main talk was by Lindsay Mullaney on Henry I and the Hidden Abbey Project. The talk was followed by refreshments and then the formal AGM.

The second Roman Boxford Lecture in the HLF-funded lecture series took place at 7.30pm in the new Boxford Village Hall, Lambourn Valley Road, Boxford, Berks, RG20 8DD. The talk was given by Dr Sam Moorhead who is the National Finds Adviser for Iron Age and Roman coins at the British Museum and who also oversees the recording and researching of Iron Age and Roman coins on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database. Sam gave a talk on Roman coins from Boxford, Berkshire and Britannia!

A BARG field trip took place with the theme "Getting to know the archaeology of West Berkshire". The itinerary included the neolithic long barrow above Inkpen, the hillfort at Walbury, the parish church of St Swithun, Combe, and the castle mounds at Hamstead Marshall.

A BARG field trip visited the University of Reading's excavation of Insula III at Silchester, with a tour by Professor Mike Fulford.

The Autumn Quaterly Open Meeting took place at 7.30pm in the De Vitre room, The Cornerstone, Norreys Ave, Wokingham. Our main speaker was Helen Glass, the Historic Environment Lead for HS2, giving a talk entitled People, Place and Time: the historic environment on HS2. Phase One of HS2 will necessitate the largest programme of archaeology and heritage works ever undertaken in the UK. It will connect London with Birmingham and the West Midlands, crossing multiple landscapes. Helen's talk set out how HS2 Ltd is seeking to use the opportunities presented by the archaeology and heritage investigations to deepen our understanding of the history of England.

The third Roman Boxford Lecture in the HLF-funded lecture series took place at 7.30pm in the new Boxford Village Hall, Lambourn Valley Road, Boxford, Berks, RG20 8DD. Julian Richards gave a talk entitled A Career in Ruins. From a medieval cess pit to Stonehenge and ‘Meet the Ancestors’ – via a spell at Reading University and directing his first digs on the Berkshire Downs – this was the story of a long, varied, and at times chaotic career. That hasn’t ended yet!

The BARG Members' Miscellany Meeting and Christmas Social took place between 7pm and 10pm in the De Vitre room, The Cornerstone, Norreys Ave, Wokingham.
